Triathalon Mommy

A little over a month ago I read an article in our very own Devil's River News about 2 ladies who were participating in sprint triathalons. While reading I thought to myself....I can do that. I contacted one of the ladies to get some information and began my training.

I signed up for my first race early April to make sure I had a goal to reach. I decided to do the Skeese Tri in New Braunfels on May 8 (yes, Mother's Day). Even though most people wouldn't pick such an event to do on Mother's Day, I figured I was doing something for me.

I invited my parents and David and the kids came too. I was so nervous but I did it. I was able to achieve my goal in less than 1 month of training. I run regularly but I had to add biking and swimming.

The race consisted of a 300 meter swim, 11.1 mile bike ride (in hills) and a 2 mile run. I completed the race in 1:19:13 (my goal was 1:15) which put me 116 out of 456 and 31 out of 85 in the 30-34 age group.

I am so very pleased and now addicted. I will try to do several a year. It was so exciting.

I am transitioning from the bike ride to run.

Taking off for the 2 mile run
